6. Make sure to select TCP as the type of ports.

7. Now, you will need to enter the specific port numbers required for your version of QuickBooks Desktop:

If you are using QuickBooks Desktop 2020, enter ports 8019, XXXXX.

• If QuickBooks Desktop 2019 then enter ports 8019, XXXXX.

• For QuickBooks Desktop 2018 enter ports 8019, 56728, 55378–55382.

• And for QuickBooks Desktop 2017, enter ports 8019, 56727, 55373–55377.

8. After entering the appropriate port numbers, click on Next and then select Allow the connection.

9. Click on Next again. In the next window, make sure to mark all the profile options that are provided.

10. Click Next once more, and you will reach the stage where you can name your new rule. It is helpful to name it in a clear format like QB ports (year) for easy reference later.

11. After naming the rule, click the Finish button to complete the setup.

12. You will need to repeat these steps to create corresponding outbound rules.

13. Once all the rules are set, restart your computer.

14. After restarting, open QuickBooks to see if your connectivity issues have been resolved. This process ensures that QuickBooks can communicate effectively with the internet through your firewall.

Removing QuickBooks from the Firewall

Follow these steps to remove to remove QuickBooks from the Firewall.

  1. First click on the Windows button on your taskbar.
  2. In the search bar type Firewall and then press enter button. This action brings up the option for Windows Firewall. click on it to proceed.
  3. Now look for the Advanced Settings button and click on it.
  4. In the next step right-click on the Inbound Rules field and from the options that appear and now choose Program. Now Click Next to continue.
  5. You will then need to specify the program path. Click on Browse and select the QuickBooks executable file (.exe).
  6. After selecting the file now click Next again and choose the Allow connection option.

  5. Continue by selecting the Manage settings option.
  6. Scroll down to the Exclusions field and click on Add or remove exclusions.
  7. Click the Add an exclusion button.
  8. From the options that appear on your screen select QuickBooks.
  9. Once you add QuickBooks as an exclusion. Now Windows Defender will no longer block tasks associated with it.
